Genine Raats is the Head of Operations & Partnerships at RecruitUp Global, bringing over a decade of recruitment experience and a deeply personal understanding of what it means to start a new life in Australia.
Genine's recruitment journey began in 2010, building expertise across candidate sourcing, employer account management, and the psychology of matching the right person to the right role. Today, she oversees day-to-day operations across both Australia and South Africa, leads employer relationships, markets skilled candidates to Australian businesses, and manages international recruitment partnerships — including collaborations with agencies in the Netherlands seeking African-speaking trades and technical professionals.
What sets Genine apart is lived experience. In 2017, she made the decision to leave South Africa and build a new life in Australia — sponsored on a 457 visa (now known as the 482 Employer Sponsored visa) by Medax Healthcare, where she served as Divisional Manager for their nursing recruitment division.
She arrived with her partner and her then 8-year-old son, four bags of clothing, and three shipped boxes. Like so many candidates she now supports, she left her entire support network behind — no family, no familiar faces, just the courage to pursue better opportunities and a safer future.
"It was emotional, but it was so worth it — for better opportunities and safety in Australia."
After nine years in Sydney, Genine recently relocated to Perth — a move she describes as feeling like "a complete immigration all over again." That ongoing, firsthand experience with relocation, visa processes, and rebuilding in a new place shapes every conversation she has with candidates considering the same journey.
Genine's edge in recruitment isn't just experience — it's a deep understanding of people.
These qualifications directly inform how she assesses candidates, matches them to employers, and creates the marketing material that presents skilled workers to Australian businesses. Understanding the psychology behind a career change or international relocation isn't a soft skill at RecruitUp Global — it's a core competency.
Genine writes and advises on topics including:
RecruitUp Global is a recruitment agency, not a migration agent. Genine and the RecruitUp team specialise in connecting skilled candidates with Australian employers who can sponsor them — they do not provide visa or immigration advice. For migration matters, RecruitUp works alongside registered MARA migration agents.
